T102 Taiwan's Two Systems in Five Versions
From 1981 to 2022, the political concessions unilaterally released by mainland China to Taiwan have been constantly evolving. Ye Jianying's version offered conditions close to independence. Deng Xiaoping offered full substantive autonomy. The 1997 version of the two systems in Hong Kong was in fact also an attractive version for Taiwan. The 2020 Hong Kong abridged version of the two systems may never have become the model for Taiwan's status. The 2022 white paper on Taiwan was in fact the official version of Xi Jinping's version of the two systems for Taiwan. In this version, Taiwan has permanently lost the preferential ‘substantive two systems’.
